An IESA initiated stores survey, in conjunction with one of our partner suppliers, identified that ten different brands of ISO/VDMA cylinders were being purchased at varying prices and lead times, all of which were located in different areas of the stores.


  • To relocate all brands of cylinders to a single designated area of the stores in conjunction with the client's engineering team to improve efficiency and reduce the time spent searching for replenishment parts.
  • Secondly, to provide recommendations to the client to standardise across fewer manufacturers - delivering cost savings and inventory reduction.


The IESA field support team was utilised to relocate all cylinders and surrounding stock within the engineering stores.

The IESA partner supplier was instructed to provide current costs for all cylinders by each brand held within the stores and, based on their expertise and knowledge, provide recommendations. An analysis was conducted by the IESA procurement team to ensure all cylinders were competitively priced from the data submitted.

The partner supplier was invited to the client / IESA monthly review meeting to present their recommendations and answer any technical queries.

Two manufacturers were recommended to the client. Both manufacturers had a history of supplying to the brewery industry, manufactured cost effective cylinders, were available from stock and offered expert product support. A unique two-year warranty was also provided.


  • Rationalising the different brands of ISO/VDMA cylinders from ten down to two resulted in a 23% cost saving for the client.
  • This specific project also contributed towards the 10% stock reduction target that had been set by the client.
  • The client and IESA databases were also updated with the new manufacturer details for the asset linking project that was in place.
